Firebirds Over Bombers, 7-5
|
The Bronx Bombers got a superb performance from third baseman Gavin Lux, but the Phoenix Firebirds still won the game, 7-5. Lux was 4-5 with a double and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs. The winning pitcher was 30-year old left-handed pitcher Ranger Suarez. He tossed 99 pitches over 5.1 innings, allowing 4 runs on 11 hits. Edwin Diaz picked up the save for Phoenix, his 13th of the year.
Phoenix center fielder Denzel Clarke contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 16th hit of the season and put the Firebirds ahead, 7-4.
"You need to show up when your number's called," said Clarke.
After today's action, Phoenix sits at 24-25, while Bronx falls to 25-24.
