Stars Prevail, 3-2, Over Toronto
|
The Cincinnati Stars did just enough to sneak past the Toronto Hogs, 3-2, at Sony Park. Cincinnati pitcher Ben Brown, in particular, had a standout performance. Brown, the winner, moves to 5-3. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 2 walks. Tyler Ferguson, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 8th save.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Marcus Betts? The Cincinnati shortstop had a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Stars on top, 3-0. For the game, Betts had 2 doubles and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"I felt we were ready to go," said Cincinnati manager Pat Padula. "Our pregame was pretty good."
The Stars improved their record to 31-27 by beating Toronto.
