Houston Loses, 5-4, in 11
|
The Boston Minutemen had to overcome a fine effort from Houston pitcher Tomoyuki Sugano to win, 5-4, in 11 innings at New League Park. Sugano went 6.1 innings and allowed 1 run. Jose Alvarado came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. His record now stands at 4-1. Hunter Gaddis was called on to finish, recording his 1st save.
Boston needed the clutch hitting of Ernie Clement to seal the deal. The third baseman swatted a solo home run in the top of the 11th inning to put the Minutemen on top, 5-4. For the game, Clement had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"This was one of those 'not to be denied' games," said Boston field general Tony Byrne.
Boston has now won 3 in a row.
