Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the Toronto Hogs got the win.
The Toronto Hogs earned a close win over the Bronx Bombers, thanks in part to Lucas Giolito. The Toronto right-hander, who finished 3rd in the FL in wins with 16 in 2021, played a key role in the 3-2 victory. Kenley Jansen was called on to finish, recording his 15th save.
Toronto used the timely hitting of Chandler Simpson to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Hogs on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"This is a very good team," said Giolito. "We have the chance to do something special."
With the win, Toronto pushed its record to 37-25.
